Interview Recorded: February 12, 2006
We are at the Queens Park Savannah where the Panorama Semi-finals is taking place. Many of the bands are already here and anxiously awaiting their turn to perform on stage. We are interviewing some of the movers and shakers within these bands. We are here with Mr. Michael Antoine, Captain of Tamana Pioneers Steel Orchestra.
TRINBAGOPAN: Mr. Antoine, how has Panorama 2006 been for you all so far?
MICHAEL: This year is a challenge for us because we had some problems earlier sourcing Tenor Players. As a matter of fact, we are just playing with seven players now so we have to improvise.
TRINBAGOPAN: Who is the band manager?
MICHAEL: Well I am actually the manager.
TRINBAGOPAN: Who is the arranger?
MICHAEL: The tune was arranged by Paul Campbell. We call him 'Master Paul Campbell'.
TRINBAGOPAN: What is your tune of choice?
MICHAEL: We think we have a winning tune this year. The song is called 'Iron Man' by Kitchener.
TRINBAGOPAN: Do you have any advice for the young people who want to go into Pan?
MICHAEL: I think it is a good idea for the young people to go into playing Pan because it helps with your academics. They can develop a longer attention span in the class. It also takes you away from drugs.
TRINBAGOPAN: Do you all have any future plans after Panorama 2006?
MICHAEL: We have a Dominica tour in April and a Venezuela tour in July.
TRINBAGOPAN: Thank you.
