Louis Baptiste of Casablanca

Interview Recorded: February 12, 2006
We are at the Queens Park Savannah where the Panorama Semi-finals is taking place. Many of the bands are already here and anxiously awaiting their turn to perform on stage. We are interviewing some of the movers and shakers within these bands to share a general idea of what goes on behind the scenes. We are here with Louis Baptiste of Casablanca Steel Orchestra.
TRINBAGOPAN: Mr. Baptiste, what is your tune of choice and who is the arranger?
LOUIS: Our tune of choice is 'Colours Again' by Destra. The arrangers are Avis Bruce and Kareem Brown.
TRINBAGOPAN: Could you share with us a little history about the band?
LOUIS: Casablanca is one of the oldest Steelbands that we have. They have been in existence since 1945. This year we brought the band back into the Small Bands Category in order to rejuvenate and come forward again. We made it into the Semi-finals and we hope we will go forward into the Finals and take the band forward from there.
TRINBAGOPAN: Do you all have any plans after Panorama 2006?
LOUIS: The band is a very youthful band and we want to keep some of them together. The stage side would be practicing throughout the year and we have plans of entering the World Steelband Music Festival later this year.
TRINBAGOPAN: Do you have any final words?
LOUIS: We hope to do our best and see how it turns out.
TRINBAGOPAN: Thank you sir.
