Interview Recorded: April 23, 2006
For the preliminary round of the Pan in the 21st Century 2K6 Competition, bands were judged as in previous years, in their communities. We interviewed some of the key people within the bands about the competition, their history and other activities in the steelband arena. We spoke with Mr. Beresford Hunte, Manager of Neal & Massy Trinidad All Stars.
TRINBAGOPAN: Mr. Hunte, what song is the band performing for this year's competition?
BERESFORD: The piece we will be doing is "Black Orpheus".
TRINBAGOPAN: Who did the arrangement?
BERESFORD: Neville Jules did the arrangement. It was adapted by Terry Demas, one of our bass players. He brought down most of the parts pans, but Neville Jules structured the whole thing. Terry Demas is the person who did all the bull work here. Neville Jules doesn't live in Trinidad, he lives abroad.
TRINBAGOPAN: With the experience in Panorama this year, what do you think your chances are in this competition?
BERESFORD: Any competition we go in whether we had an experience with Panorama or not, we do not go to lose. We go to every competition to win. But, we accept the judges' decision because the judges' decision is final. This has nothing to do with Panorama. That is gone, it's history. Next twenty years when people ask, "Who won Panorama", they will say the band that won. They don't ask who came second or by how many points and so on. We have a good record in Pan in the 21st Century over the years.
TRINBAGOPAN: Do you have any final words?
BERESFORD: My final words to the other bands are, may the best band win but we are coming to beat everybody.
TRINBAGOPAN: Thank you.
