For the preliminary round of the Pan Down Memory Lane 2K6 Competition, bands were judged, as in previous years, in their communities. We interviewed some of the key people within the bands about the competition and other activities in the steelband arena. We spoke with Mr. Milton Paul, Captain and Mr. Ian Baird, Arranger and Vice Captain of Spree Simon Harmonics.

TRINBAGOPAN: Mr. Paul, could you give us a little history about the band?

MILTON: We entered competitions in different areas like Carenage and so on, and we came out on top. We went to New York in 1994, came back and won the Panorama in 1995. Since then we have been running in the semi-finals. We have a whole changed band with only youths now. We are trying even though we do not have any sponsor. We do not get any help from anybody. We sent letters to T&TEC but they didn't reply. All about got electricity, except us.

TRINBAGOPAN: Do you have any final things you would like to say?

MILTON: I am glad that most of the youths are here with us. We do not get any problems with them. We would like to get more of the youths to come in and join the band.

TRINBAGOPAN: Thank You.

TRINBAGOPAN: Mr. Baird, how long has this band been in existence?

IAN: This band has been in existence since about 1987. Our first Panorama was in 1992.

TRINBAGOPAN: What song is the band playing this year?

IAN: We will be playing "Tell Laura I Love Her".

TRINBAGOPAN: What plans do you all have after this competition?

IAN: There are many competitions coming up which we will be looking at. Our stage side will also keep practicing throughout the year. We have some young ones coming in, so we do things to keep them more positive and constructive.

TRINBAGOPAN: Do you have any final words.

IAN: Well, all I could say is, I would like to get back on top again.

TRINBAGOPAN: Thank You.
