For the preliminary round of the Pan Down Memory Lane 2K6 Competition, bands were judged, as in previous years, in their communities. We interviewed some of the key people within the bands about the competition, their history and other activities in the steelband arena. We spoke with Mr. Gilbert Williams, Captain of Ice Water Pan Ensemble.

TRINBAGOPAN: Mr. Williams, what song is the band performing for Pan Down Memory Lane?

GILBERT: The band will be performing "Gina". We expect to do very good and place tops in the competition.

TRINBAGOPAN: Could you share a bit of history about Ice Water Pan Ensemble?

GILBERT: Ice Water Pan Ensemble was formed about four years ago. Our very first engagement was for the selection of the West Indies Women Cricket. We performed at the Cascadia Hotel, the Prime Minister's residence for Indian Arrival Day and a lot of other functions. The band went on a tour in Anguilla last year. We placed first in the Northern Region in the 'Republic Fiesta' and we placed 12th in the Panorama Finals which was very good, considering it was our first Panorama. And now we are competing in Pan Down Memory Lane.

TRINBAGOPAN: What was this Steelband born out of?

GILBERT: This Steelband was really born out of this group. Over the past few years we weren't really getting anything to do. We were just practicing here in the yard because nobody really hires any big conventional bands during the year. We decided we would try a thing.

TRINBAGOPAN: Thank you.
