Interview Recorded: April 20, 2006
For the preliminary round of the Pan Down Memory Lane 2K6 Competition, bands were judged, as in previous years, in their communities. We interviewed some of the key people within the bands about the competition, their history and other activities in the steelband arena. We spoke with Mr. Russel St. Louis, Captain of Caribbean Paradise.
TRINBAGOPAN: Mr. St. Louis, what song is the band playing for the Pan Down Memory Lane Competition?
RUSSEL: The name of the song is "Love Me Tender". We learned the song in three days because we didn't have much time of preparation. The players are not too experienced but we are trying with them. We are trying to bring something different to Trinapu. With all the violence and crime going around, we are trying to bring something to the youths and them to lead them away from the crime. That is why we decided to come with this pan side. The side has been around for about three years now. We are trying to see what we can do.
TRINBAGOPAN: What are some of the things you have planned for the band this year?
RUSSEL: We plan to enter every competition. We are trying to get more experience and more practice so that over a period of time, the players will develop into strong professional players.
TRINBAGOPAN: Thank you sir.
